Webinar #DarlingFromHome: Bagi Jurus Mengompos

SIAPDARLING - Since May 2020, #SiapDarling, initiated by Bakti Lingkungan Djarum Foundation, has organized #DarlingFromHome to educate young people about protecting the environment via Zoom webinars. It aims to fill the young generation with a passion for protecting the environment through positive activities at home (#dirumahaja) during the pandemic.

In September, the theme of #SiapDarling is composting. We will have discussions and learn how to make compost in “Bagi Jurus Mengompos” webinar with Abdurrachman Aldila (Kaka Darling) from #SiapDarling team & Dwi Sasetyaningtyas (CEO of Sustaination).

Why should the young generation try their hands at composting? On a daily basis, at least 175 tons of waste are generated across Indonesia. In particular, 60% of the waste is organic* and ends up in landfill sites without being processed and used further. Indonesia is the second main food waster after Saudi Arabia, producing 300 kilograms of food waste per capita every year*.

What will happen if organic waste is not well processed? Organic waste in landfill sites will decompose and produce methane, one of the gases causing the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming. What can we do?

First, avoid overeating, sort your waste at home, and start composting. Organic waste (household waste) can be processed and doesn’t have to end up in landfill sites. Some say that making compost is hard. Nah, it is easy and fun if you know how to do it! For those who love gardening, the organic fertilizer you get from composting can be your friend as it promotes plant growth.
